In chemistry and other scientific experiments, laboratory funnels are used to transfer liquids or particles into narrowly opening containers. Depending on their intended use, they can be made of glass or plastic and come in a range of sizes and forms. While separatory funnels are used to separate immiscible liquids, Buchner funnels are used for vacuum filtering.
Separatory Funnel: Also called a separating funnel, this type of funnel usually has a stopcock at the bottom and is pear-shaped. It is employed to divide immiscible liquids of various densities so that they can be drained independently.
Filter Funnel: These funnels feature a short stem and a wide, flat bottom. They are used in conjunction with filter paper to filter out liquids and separate the solids. To handle varying liquid contents, they frequently come in a variety of sizes.
